Description of the job
A Head of Quality position has arisen within Defence and Security in Newport. The position involves managing and developing a Quality Assurance Team and requires leading the organisation to attain further Quality accreditation (e.g. CMMI Level 3). This position will allow the candidate to enhance his or her people management skills and will allow for international development within a Quality Assurance environment. The overall responsibility of the position requires the design, implementation, promotion and development of the Quality management strategy that is in line with business requirements.
Tasks
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the following: 
- Relationship building both internally and externally as well as the ability to mentor and develop an established Quality Assurance Team; 
- Developing and implementing Quality Management Capabilities across DCS UK &amp; Services; 
- Directing, engaging and managing the Quality function across the bid/project arena of DCS UK 
&amp; Services; 
- Identifying Quality Assurance resources and budget requirements/constraints; 
- Supporting and maintaining of ISO9001 and TickIT quality accreditation as well as achievement of CMMI; 
- Working as a member of the UKBoard ensuring effective quality assurance across the spectrum of customer projects and deliver business objectives; 
- Developing of Quality terms of succession planning and training requirements; 
- Working with other lines of business across the UK to ensure “best practice” approaches are rolled out across Europe; 
- Supporting continued development of the Business Management System including the audit/customer care processes; 
- Serving as the Quality Partner to head of business, representing and advising on quality and customer issues. 
Your skills
As the successful candidate, you should be able to demonstrate the following characteristics: 
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering or Quality Management; 
- Extensive Business/Project Management experience at a senior level; 
- Considerable Quality Management experience within a large scale project based engineering organisation to include systems integration and test; 
- Black Belt trained; 
- ITIL Methodology (ISO 15000 series), ISO 17799, TickIT, CMMI methodology; 
- Financial Management – budgets and personnel in excess of £2Mpa/equipment release up to £20M; 
- People Management – proven ability of managing a team of up to 18 employees; 
- Knowledge of MOD requirements and quality awards an advantage. 
English: Negotiation Level. 
French/German desirable.

Key responsibilities 
Determination and generation of Quality plans to meet Customer requirements 
Ensuring Quality plans are implemented and translated into robust production process controls
Ensure Quality Management System adherence to EN 9100 throughout the Product Development Lifecycle
Ensure implementation of robust change control and configuration management process
Manage and host Product Development auditing activities
Manage Quality escapes and Customer investigations
Drive Product Non Conformance investigations and associated root cause analysis activities
Conduct required First Article Inspections and ensure smooth transition of new products into production
Experience required
Self starter with a desire for problem solving and process improvement
Proven background in Quality Assurance and thorough understanding of Quality tools and techniques
Understanding of key aerospace Quality Standards such as AS EN 9100, NADCAP
Professional conduct and good communication skills to influence both internally and externally
Attention to detail and methodical approach
