Description of the job
A position has come available as Principle Security Engineer with Defence and Security based in Newport, South Wales. The position will see the candidate reporting into the Head of Security at the Centre of Competence (CoC) UK, as well as the project manager and functional manager; they will be part of a team responsible for undertaking the security analysis and documentation production within the system.
The role offers the individual the chance to work within a growing part of the business, in a domain which is fundamental to the strategic goals of the organization. It also offers a career with the future prospect of joining the Security Expert Scheme in EADS.
Tasks
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the following:
- Undertaking project security activities and produce associated documents;
- Representing the Business on Government security policy matters within the project;
- Being aware of technological / engineering developments and issues in industry and interact with the Service Management to continuously improve security processes and procedures;
- Producing appropriate documentation, they will also be capable of supporting the accreditation through interfacing with the appropriate accreditation body and able to define both novel and effective ways in which the security architecture of large network solutions can be addressed.
- Ensuring that allocated Work Package elements are completed to company and project standards, within agreed cost, time and quality constraints;
- Exercising professional judgment in applying security expertise to solve complex problems even within a highly political environment;

- Potentially required to mentor less experienced colleagues;

Your skills
As the successful candidate, you should be able to demonstrate the following characteristics:
- An engineering background is preferred but a quality background will suffice;
- Must be recognised as an expert within the Security Domain;
- Knowledge and experience of current Government security standards, particularly IS1, IS2, IS4, ISO27001, ISO27002 and the Manual of Protective Security;
- Knowledge and experience of best practice systems engineering approach, additional knowledge of the Rational Unified Process (RUP) would be an advantage;
- Experience with production of ISMS artefacts and ISO 27001 accreditation delivery of security within large IT programs, specifically within the last 3-4 years is a must;
- A background in architecture and design would be desirable;

Technical proposal authoring
The group undertakes a variety of end-to-end and ground segment related projects. The person for this role needs to be flexible to work on a number of tasks across a project and to work on multiple projects at the same time. Strong technical leadership coupled with willingness and capability to learn on the job is essential. The capacity to be fully responsible for a large scale system design is required.
The successful candidate will also be required to undertake work package management, maintaining technical tasks to schedule and budget, provide inputs to internal and external reviews, and support internal R&amp;D activities related to the activities of the group. Technical authoring for proposals is another key role that will need to be undertaken as part of the job.
The ability to assimilate the big picture and liaise technically at all levels to progress system definition is central to this role as is an understanding of the lifecycle of space mission projects and the ability to interface with customers, industrial team partners and sub-contractors.
The role is based at the Portsmouth site but willingness to travel in Europe to support meetings, reviews, verification campaigns etc is essential.
Qualifications and/or Skills
Essential: 
Systems engineering, 
requirements management, 
understanding of Payload Data Ground systems architecture and operations, 
Knowledge of UML/SysML.
Desirable: 
Telelogic DOORS, 
understanding of end-to-end service chain especially for Earth Observation Missions, 
high level understanding of a range of onboard instruments ideally including Synthetic Aperture Radar, understanding of calibration/validation strategies and mission planning
Previous Experience
Essential: 
Significant experience of Payload Data Ground Systems engineering and operations, 
experience of technical proposal authoring
Desirable: 
Experience of ESRIN Payload Data Processing infrastructure or equivalent
