A Safety Engineer position has arisen with Astrium in Porstmouth. The potential candidate will be part of the Safety and Product Liability team working on Secure Satellite Systems in a military and commercial environment. The role has a significant Safety aspect but may also involve some environmental, human factors and EMC test activities. The position will offer the candidate experience in the Space industry and the chance to bring something new to a fresh and growing department.
Tasks
As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for the following:
- Performing and maintaining safety analysis, producing safety cases and reports for control centres;
- Constructing and maintenance of Hazard Logs;
- Liaising with internal engineers to help with continuous improvement of safety implementation within design and product requirement development;
- Providing post-delivery support to the customer involving some travelling to sites to investigate any hardware issues in the field;
- Budget reporting.
Your skills
As the successful candidate, you should be able to demonstrate the following characteristics:
- Good knowledge of European New Approach Directives. Experience of DEF STAN 00-56, JSP 454, JSP 430, BS EN 61508;
-Proven experience in Defence Standard 00-56, Mil Stan 882B, ECSS-Q-40B, BS EN 61508, JSP 430,JSP 454, within a Systems Engineering environment;
- Experience in Systems Safety including but not limited to: HAZID/HAZAN;
- Experience in the Construction of Safety Cases and presentation of Safety Case reports;
- Experience in CASSANDRA Hazard Log management tool is desirable.
Desirable:
- Human Factors (Def Stan 00-25);
- Knowledge of EMC standards and directives - Def Stan 59-41, Mil Stan 461F, RTCA DO-160F, EU EMC directive 2004/108/EC;
- Capacity to influence project team members;
-Proven record of communication skills with relevant stakeholders.;
-Ability to demonstrate pragmatic critical thinking decision making;
- Time management and budget reporting skills as required.

Test Means and for ensuring an effective testing strategy across all Airbus fuel system programmes is achieved. You will hold
responsibility for ensuring a continuous development of the fuel system test facility and it's associated processes which are
critical to sucessful test programme completion.
Tasks
You will be required to manage all technical aspects of test means design through implemention of the necessary standards and
methods and utilisation of bespoke fluid mechanical testing facilities. You will be required to gain an in-depth knowledge and
understanding of all aspects of the Fuel Systems Test Facility in conjunction with developing a working understanding of aircraft
fuel systems. You will also be responsible for developing testing strategies to support Fuel System Design Verification.
You will be a member of the Fluid Mechanical Rig Design &amp; Test Group within Fuel Test Facilities. Your Domain Line
Manager will be the Head of Fuel Test Facilities through the Fluid Mechanical Rig Design &amp; Test Engineering Group Leader.
You will be required to support Fluid Mechanical Test Engineers in:
- Delivering the test means and test outputs to verify design requirements through testing;
- Specifying design rules and methodologies to produce bespoke test equipment and rigs;
- Working with sub-contract manufacturers and designers of test equipment and rigs;
- Defining and developing fuel system test methods and processes to enhance test capability;
- Ensuring Test Means Configuration is accurately recorded to allow test traceability;
- Advising Systems Design Office on test methods to maximise use of test means;
- Developing test programme schedules for fluid mechanical rig test;
- Witnessing and evaluation of fuel system component qualification testing and test means capability;
- Managing fuel system test facility design and working processes modification &amp; upgrade;
- Providing Fuel Test input into the Fuel System Design Verification matrix on the test methods by which fuel system design will
be
validated;
- Participating in all project meetings/reviews in conjunction with Systems Centre of Competancy Design Office;
- Delivering project outputs to time cost and quality;
- Ensuring that all generic technical and administrative practices required by the project are adhered to;
- Supporting Airbus value creation initiatives.
Skills
Required qualifications include;
- Degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical engineering,
OR
- HNC/HND in Mechanical/Aeronautical engineering.
In addition to these qualifications sufficient experience will need to be demonstrated to show competence at the following skills:
Required technical skills:
- Knowledge of hydromechanical systems operation, including experience of fluid mechanical component and sub-system
testing principles;
- Experience in test equipment/rig design &amp; manufacture;
- Experience of working in an Hazardous Area classified under BS EN 60079-10;
- Experience of specifying equipment for use in Hazardous Areas;
- Understanding of Validation and Verification processes.
Desirable technical skills:
- Good working knowledge of aircraft fuel systems;
- Experience of Windows Based Data Acquisition Systems;
- Knowledge of fluid mechanical test instrumentation;
- Experience of aircraft ground based testing;
- Experience in technical project leadership, incl. estimating and budgetary control.

Role – Test and Verification Engineer
Working in a team within the Test and Verification function the TV Engineer assists the TV Analyst in the delivery of designated test and verification activities pertaining to specific programmes and will develop key relationships with internal departments and subcontractors to ensure successful delivery. The Test &amp; Verification Engineer will be specifically responsible for all deliverables pertaining to the design and execution of test cases and test scripts for each designated test phase of the allocated Programme.

Role – Service Engineer
To provide senior technical assistance to the network at 3rd line support level and provide an interface to 4th line in Architecture &amp; Engineering.
