    <body lang=EN-GB style='tab-interval:36.0pt'> <div class=Section1> <p>Airbus is expressing strong interest in plans to expand an airfield outside Amiens in northern France which would enable the manufacturer to transport large aircraft component sections by air instead of road.</p> <p>Plans drawn up by the general council of the Somme region, in association with local municipal groups, would see the site, presently used by a local flying club, transformed into an airport capable of accommodating freighters such as the specialised Airbus A300-600ST Beluga high-capacity transport. Airbus uses the aircraft to carry large sections of its airframes to assembly points.</p> <p>Development of the site, some 30km (16nm) northeast of Amiens airfield, would allow Airbus to reorganise its logistics operation.
