• Gulf Air celebrates with new and old

    News | 16 Jun 1999 00:00

Gulf Air had plenty to celebrate yesterday as it took delivery of its first Airbus Industrie A330-200 at the show. It was Airbus's 30th birthday, an anniversary topped by Gulf Air which is celebrating 50 years of operations.

Against a backdrop of the A330-200 and an Avro Anson, the aircraft first operated by Gulf Air, Airbus chief executive Noel Forgeard and Gulf Air president Sheikh Ahmed bin Seif Al Nahyan signed the document which places the aircraft in the hands of the airline.

Also on hand was Sir Ralph Robins, chairman of Rolls-Royce, whose Trent 700 engines are on the aircraft. Says Sheikh Ahmed: "Our A330-200s are the best in their class by a long way, allowing us to fly our passengers non-stop in style to Europe. The A330-200s have the best passenger comfort, range and economics in their class and are just what we need to succeed and grow our business with." The aircraft is the first of six being delivered to Gulf Air this year and next year.
http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/Gulf-Air-celebrates-with-new-and-old-52758/
