    <BODY LINK="#0000ff" VLINK="#800080"> <P>Air Moldova has signed a purchase agreement with Brazilian regional jet manufacturer Embraer covering two firm orders for the ERJ-145s and options on two more of the 50-seat regional jets.</P> <P>The carrier has sought to acquire modern Western-built aircraft to replace its ageing Soviet-era fleet, in a bid to maintain its position in the European environment once the stricter Stage 3 noise regulations take effect in 2002.</P> <P>Earlier this year, a capital injection from a German investment group provided the former Aeroflot subsidiary with a solid financial base on which to expand its fleet.</P> <P>By using the smaller ERJ-145s on routes presently operated by aircraft such as the Tupolev Tu-134, the carrier hopes to increase load factors to around 80%.</P> <P>The carrier is due to take delivery of the new aircraft in May and June of 2002 and has lined up deployment of the ERJ-145 on services linking its Chisinau International Airport bhttp://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/Air-Moldova-to-take-up-to-four-ERJ-145s-248327/
