    <P>Russia’s air transport industry has got off to a strong start this year despite constraints stemming from higher fuel prices, airport fees and fares.<BR><BR>Interim reports by the Transport Clearing Chamber (TCC), monitoring the sector, and many airlines testify to a strong traffic growth in the first four months. <BR><BR>Year-on-year increases in overall passenger numbers for particular top-tier operators were as follows: Aeroflot - 16%; S7 Airlines – 38%; Transaero – 46%; Rossiya – 15%; UTAir – 27%; AirUnion alliance – 28%.<BR><BR>Notably, at Aeroflot domestic growth dwarfed international expansion (33% and 2.7% respectively) while the second-largest Russian carrier, S7 Airlines, expanded in the cross-border segment by 25% - by far larger than domestically.</P> <P align=center><IMG style="BORDER-RIGHT: 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: 1px solid; WIDTH: 445px; BORDER-BOTTOM: 1px solid; HEIGHT: 281px" alt="aeroflot " src="../assets/getAsset.aspx?ItemID=23079" border=http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/ILA-2008-Russian-airlines-bright-start-counters-rising-fuel-costs-224141/

    <P>Four Russian carriers are set to be banned from operating to the European Union from next week, while five other carriers will face restrictions on their operations.</P> <P>Russia’s federal transport authority <A href="http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http://www.rostransnadzor.gov.ru/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3DRostransnadzor%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG" target=_blank>Rostransnadzor</A> and air transport agency Rosaviatsiya have proposed banning <A href="http://www.kmvavia.aero/doc.html?id=19" target=_blank>Kavminvodyavia </A>(KMV), <A href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakutia_Airlines" target=_blank>Yakutia Airlines</A>, <A href="http://www.alk.ru/eng/index.php?id=248">Kuban Airlines </A>and <A href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airlines_400" target=_new>Airlines 400</A>.</P> <P>The action follows advisories from the European Commission to Russian authorities concerning the carriers’ non-compliance with <A href="http://ec.europa.eu/transport/http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/Russia-to-ban-four-airlines-from-EU-215012/
