    <body lang=EN-GB style='tab-interval:36.0pt'> <div class=Section1> <p class=MsoNormal>Malaysia Airports Holdings (MAB) has completed a major upgrade of Kuching International Airport in East Malaysia that included the redevelopment of the terminal building.</p> <p class=MsoNormal>National airports operator MAB says in a statement that the redevelopment work included an upgrade of the existing terminal building, and the construction of new road infrastructure and car parks as part of a 620 million ringgit ($169 million) expansion programme.</p> <p class=MsoNormal>The new terminal building has a floor area of 46,500m<sup>2</sup>, more than double that of the old terminal, and is able to handle up to five million passengers annually. Last year 3.35 million passengers were handled by Kuching airport, representing growth of 1.1% over 2004.</p> <p class=MsoNormal>MAB says there are also plans to lengthen the airport’s runway to 3,780m (12,400ft) from 2,454m at a costhttp://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/Malaysia-Airports-opens-new-Kuching-airport-terminal-295228/

    <p>Singapore Airlines (SIA) has replaced the nose landing gear of one of its Airbus A310-300s after a runway overrun at Kuching International Airport in Malaysia on 29 January. The aircraft landed in heavy rain, coming to a stop on soft ground about 20m (65ft) past the end of the runway. Nobody on board was hurt.     <BODY LINK="#0000ff" VLINK="#800080"> <P>Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has started testing a new Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Kuching International Airport days after the over-run of a Singapore Airlines (SIA) Airbus Industrie A310.</P> <P>Malaysia's state-run news agency, Bernama, says the DCA has begun calibration tests on the new 3.6 million ringgit ($950,000) ILS, installed on 6 December for the single runway, using a Learjet 60. The agency does not specify when the system is due to become operational, however.</P> <P>The tests come as Malaysia's transport minister, Ling Liong Sik, is defending the DCA and Malaysia Airports, which operates airports throughout the country including the one at Kuching, over the lack of an operational ILS at the airport.</P> <P>Ling has said the Government "is looking into the matter" while cautioning that an investigation into the 29 January SIA over-run should be completed before the incident is linked to the ILS not yethttp://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/Malaysia-tests-Kuching-ILS-amid-SIA-over-run-probe-244260/
