• Optimism in the turboprop camp

    News | 01 Nov 2006 00:00

The turboprop market has always been active in the second-hand aircraft market, but after the majority of manufacturers retired from the race a few years ago, questions have persisted whether ATR and Bombardier could continue as well. Both manufacturers have had difficult times in the years following 9/11, but a resurgence of orders over the past two to three years has reinstated confidence in the market.
This year will not see as many orders as in 2005, but between ATR and Bombardier the market should see more than 120 aircraft in the turboprop segment in 2006.
As of 25 October, ATR led the race, having received orders for 57 aircraft. Bombardier was slightly behind with almost 40 aircraft.
The year 2005 was the year of India for ATR, with orders emerging from Kingfisher Airlines and Air Deccan notably. Of the 90 aircraft sales, 50 firm orders were placed by these carriers. ATR also won a vital campaign in the region with PIA placing an order for seven ATR-42-500s.
This yeahttp://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/Optimism-in-the-turboprop-camp-218651/
