Aircraft Profile: Cirrus SR22

The Cirrus SR22 started off as an aircraft providing private pilots with the luxury of top sports car and has developed into a model that is satisfying growing air taxi businesses as well as owner fliers.

The latest addition to the range, the SR22-G3 is highly rated by pilots and passengers alike. Featuring nearly 700 changes and systems improvements, all G3 models are powered by the Continental 310 hp IO-550 engine. These fuel-injected, six cylinder engines have a tuned exhaust system and 6-point mount for smooth, low-vibration travel.

The G3 has a lighter wing and greater range over its predecessors, while oversized doors allow for easy entry and exit to the light comfortable cabin. As with all modern Cirrus aircraft, the G3 features CAPS; an emergency parachute system that can bring the aircraft to ground safely in the case of a life-threatening emergency.

Heritage:

Cirrus Design introduced the SR20 at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Convention in Oshkosh in 1994 after four years development and it first flew on March 31 1995 and received FAA certification in 1998 with deliveries beginning the following year.

Less than a year later, in 2000, the product line expanded with certification of the SR22, featuring a more powerful engine and longer range. Both aircraft are of composite construction, advanced aerodynamics and have roomy cabins. The SR22 has become the bestselling aircraft in its class. The SR22-G3 was launched in April 2007 with its host of new improvements.
