  • ANALYSIS: Ukraine's and Russia's aerospace industries will be hit hard by deteriorating relations

    News | 23 Sep 2014 10:16

Ever since Russia-backed forces began to take control of the Crimean peninsula at the end of February, a steady of escalation of sanctions by Ukraine against Russia has had increasingly negative effects on the aerospace sectors of both countries. Since the collapse of the former Soviet Union in 1991, the two countries' industries had enjoyed an at-times contentious but largely productive collaborative relationship. The most recent round of embargoes placed on Russia by Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko, however, will cut the links and cause collateral damage on both sides.http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/ANALYSIS-Ukraines-and-Russias-aerospace-industries-will-be-hit-hard-by-deteriorating-relations-403480/

  • ANALYSIS: Russian Helicopters looks to civil market for renewed lift

    News | 12 Aug 2014 09:43 | Dominic Perry

If you wanted proof that undoubted success in the military segment does not automatically translate into the civil sphere then you could look no further than Russian Helicopters. While its military products are in some cases class-leading – whatever you think of the Mi-17’s appearance it continues to sell in droves – the company’s two latest civil developmental programmes are showing teething troubles. The Ka-62, a 6.5t rotorcraft that features a great deal of Western content, is slipping ever later. First flight was originally due last year, but that has now been pushed into the second half of 2014. And the Mi-38, a 15.6t helicopter that made its first flight in 2003, has been crawling incrementally closer to certification.http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/ANALYSIS-Russian-Helicopters-looks-to-civil-market-for-renewed-lift-400638/
