Airline Profile: Spanair

Founded in 1986, Spanair S.A is a Spanish international and domestic airline based in Palma de Mallorca that provides a scheduled passenger network linking 25 Spanish cities and 52 European destinations as well as servicing Algiers, Banjul and Cassablanca in addition to charters flown on behalf of tour operators. Spanair is 100% owned by the SAS Group and joined the Star Alliance network April 2003.


History


Spanair began operations in March 1988 with European charters, while long-haul charter flights to the USA, Mexico and Carribbean were launched in 1991. Domestic scheduled flights began in March 1994 with Intercontinetal scheduled flights beginning in 1997 with services between Madrid and Washington.
