Croatia has significantly improved its aerial firefighting capability with the recent acquisition and service entry of three Air Tractor AT-802A Fire Boss amphibious firefighting aircraft.

The contract for three single-seat turboprops, plus training and equipment, was signed late last year. The Zadar-based 885 firefighting squadron acquired two AT-802s in 2001. One is operational but the other was destroyed following a non-fatal accident on 2 September 2004 during a firefighting mission.

The squadron also operates Bombardier 415 amphibious turboprops.
