AAR has received approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to begin providing aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul services at its Lake Charles, Louisiana repair station.

The 520,000ft2 (48,309m2) widebody maintenance centre at Chennault International Airport will be outfitted with space for an aircraft as large as the double-deck Airbus A380. AAR is also working on constructing a 118,000ft2 expansion to the building.

AAR will open the facility with a staff of 250 people and plans to add another 500 to the facility by 2017, says the maintenance firm. It has not specified a date for when the building will open.

The new maintenance centre is AAR's sixth MRO facility, along with locations in Miami, Indianapolis, Oklahoma City, Duluth, Minnesota and Hot Springs, Arkansas.
