Russian flag-carrier Aeroflot has confirmed a 55% fall in net income for the first half of this year, under international financial reporting standards.

The airline turned in a net figure of $72.2 million, a drop of $89 million for the six-month period.

It says the consolidated revenue for the first half was up by 28.4% to $2.14 billion, but operating expenses soared by 42% to just over $2 billion.

Aeroflot, which put out preliminary first-half figures last month, attributes the decline in net profit to the rise in aviation fuel costs.
