Aeroflot has chosen Aurora as the name for its soon-to-be-launched enlarged far-eastern subsidiary.

Aurora, which incorporates Vladivostok Avia and Sakhalin Airways, is to begin operations in the winter season.

A source close to Aeroflot management says it has been named Aurora after the Roman goddess of the dawn, in allusion to the carrier's location. He adds that this is also in line with the results of a survey of Aeroflot passengers.

Under the business plan, the enlarged carrier will increase the number of served destinations to 132 in 2018 – up from 30 this year – and transport 2.4 million travellers per annum.
