Aerolineas Argentinas plans to launch a second flight between Buenos Aires and Miami in December.

The state-owned airline hopes to increase connections with its SkyTeam partners at the US gateway, says Marcelo Bottini, general manager to the USA, Canada, Central America and the Caribbean at Aerolineas Argentinas.

The airline operates once daily between the two cities, however, a morning departure from Miami makes same-day connections from other destinations in the USA difficult for passengers.

Aerolineas Argentinas launched nonstop flights between Buenos Aires and Sydney, Australia, on 2 July following its emergence from its decade-long bankruptcy restructuring in 2011. The airline has said that it plans to boost frequencies on key international routes for a number of years.

American Airlines operates two daily flights and LAN operates one daily flight between Buenos Aires and Miami, according to Innovata schedules.

Aerolineas Argentinas will join the SkyTeam alliance in a ceremony in Buenos Aires on 29 August.
