Mexican carrier Aeromexico has conducted a biofuel flight from Mexico City to Madrid with a Boeing 777-200ER.

The SkyTeam carrier, which operates 777s powered by General Electric GE90 engines, conducted the flight with a blend of 70% traditional fuel and 30% biofuel, provided by Mexico's Airports and Auxiliary Services.

Aeromexico operated the flight, which had 250 passengers on board, with the help of Boeing and the country's communications and transport ministry, it said.

The airline plans to begin biofuel flights next year to destinations such as San Jose and Costa Rica with Boeing 737-700s powered by CFM International CFM56 engines.
