Air Arabia carried a total of 1.45 million passengers in the first quarter, up by 17.5% compared with the same period last year.

Passenger numbers were boosted by new routes from Sharjah to Sialkot in Pakistan, Baghdad in Iraq, and Mattala in Sri Lanka, the airline says.

Air Arabia also took delivery of two new sharklet-equipped Airbus A320s during the first quarter - part of a 44-aircraft order placed in 2007.
