Malaysian long-haul budget airline Air Asia X is to switch its London-Kuala Lumpur flights from Stansted to Gatwick airport from 24 October, in an effort to improve onward connections for passengers.

The airline has operated from Stansted since March 2009 and currently has six flights weekly.

Chief executive Azran Osman-Rani said it had decided to move airport to take advantage of Gatwick's regional access and superior rail connections to central London, compared to those from Stansted.

The airline will operate an Airbus A340-300 on the route, in an 18-seat premium cabin/309 economy seat configuration.
