Air Astana and Turkish Airlines have agreed to codeshare on flights between Kazakhstan and Turkey.

The agreement on routes between Turkey's capital Istanbul and Kazakh cities Astana and Almaty will include a special arrangement on fares to destinations beyond these hubs and will take effect from May 2013.

A letter of intent to establish the codeshare was signed at an event in Istanbul by Air Astana's president Peter Foster and Turkish's chief executive Temel Kotil.

Foster says the strength of the "extensive and rapidly growing network of Turkish Airlines" means through the codeshare Air Astana will be able to offer a much wider range of destinations to its customers. Kotil says the partnership will benefit both carriers, not only commercially "but also in technical and training areas".
