Wet-lease specialist Air Atlanta Icelandic is establishing a Scandinavian joint-venture to examine the possibilities for long-haul air freight business from the Nordic market.
Its partner in the venture is Sundt Air, a Norwegian company which specialises in executive jet services and fixed-base operations at Oslo Gardermoen.
As part of the venture, named Sundt Atlanta Skybridge, a Boeing 747-200 freighter - serial number 22363 - has been based at Oslo, and is being offered for ad hoc services.
The jet was formerly operating freight services for Saudi Arabian Airlines but has been repainted in Sundt Atlanta Skybridge colours.
"Further steps of this co-operation are to evaluate the market opportunities for scheduled transatlantic services out of Norway," says Air Atlanta Icelandic.
It says these operations would transport such goods as industrial products and salmon to the USA. "Other Nordic markets are furthermore being considered," it adds.
"Despite the challenging business environment, it is our hope that we will be successful picking up ad hoc business in the Scandinavian market in the coming months while we evaluate the future market potential."
