Air Berlin and Swiss carrier Darwin Airline, which operates under Etihad Regional branding, have deepened their partnership through a codeshare agreement.

Both airlines are part of Etihad Airways’ equity alliance. The Gulf carrier has a 29% stake in Air Berlin and holds a third of Darwin’s shares.

Darwin has placed Air Berlin flight numbers on certain routes as a first phase, but this is to be extended in future, says the German airline.

The initial partner flights include routes from Zurich to Dusseldorf, Leipzig, the Austrian city of Linz and Verona in Italy.

From Geneva, Darwin is to place Air Berlin’s code on its flights to Dusseldorf and Stuttgart.

The Swiss turboprop operator will also place Air Berlin flight numbers on its flights from Dusseldorf to London’s Stansted airport. That route was previously operated by Air Berlin.
