Germany's Air Berlin formally joins Oneworld today, becoming the 11th full active member and bringing with it Austrian operator Niki, which will join the alliance as an affiliate member.
Air Berlin gives Oneworld a home carrierin the German market, a country already served by all current active members of the alliance. It trebles the number of cities served by the alliance in Germany to 25.
More details will follow at the airline's joining ceremony later today, which will be held at the new Berlin Brandenburg airport - which will become the airline's new home when it opens on 3 June.
Air Berlin will take the alliance back up to 11 active members after Hungarian carrier Malev's grounding earlier this year.
