Air Berlin names Himmelreich as new chief operating officer

German carrier Air Berlin has named Helmut Himmelreich as the new chief operating officer.

He will replace Christoph Debus who will leave Air Berlin at the end of the year.

Himmelreich, the airline's chief maintenance officer since March 2010, will be replaced by his deputy Marco Ciomperlik.

In August Air Berlin embarked on a major restructuring in a bid to return to profitability and long-time chief executive Joachim Hunold steppe down in September.
