Air Canada Rouge has teamed with Toronto-based technology firm GuestLogix for onboard payment processing and retail services delivered through its wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) platform, "player".

The multi-year payment deal will allow the newly-launched leisure carrier to monetise the Panasonic Avionics eXW product by adding new online retail applications that could generate ancillary revenues.

The wireless IFE system, available across the carrier's Boeing 767-300ER and Airbus A319 fleet, allows passengers to access multimedia content such as movies and television shows on their own devices.

"Partnering with GuestLogix ensures the security of payment data for our rouge (economy) customers as they use our player entertainment system and as we gradually build out additional retailing capabilities," said Anton Vidgen, Air Canada Rouge's senior director, customer and technology in a release.
