The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has approved Air China’s application to begin flights between Beijing Capital and Washington Dulles international airports.

The Beijing-based Star Alliance carrier plans to operate the route four-times weekly on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from 10 June.

Star partner United Airlines is the only carrier with a flight in the market, Innovata schedules show. Washington Dulles is a large hub for the carrier.

Air China launched new service to Honolulu in January and to Houston Intercontinental – another United hub – in 2013.
