Air China passenger traffic up by almost 9% in May

Chinese flag carrier Air China's overall passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, rose by 8.8% in May.

The carrier's international passenger traffic increased by 6.1%, while its domestic passenger traffic went up by 10.3% and regional traffic rose by 4.1%.

The airline carried 6.27 million passengers in May, up by 7.2% year on year. Its passenger numbers rose by 8.4% to 5.37 million on domestic routes and decreased by 2% year on year to 604,000 on international routes. Passenger numbers increased by 6% to 298,000 on regional routes.

Air China's overall passenger capacity, as measured in ASKs, rose by 8.8%. Capacity grew by 8.8% on domestic routes, by 8.3% on international routes and by 12.4% on regional routes.

The overall passenger load factor remained unchanged at 78.9% for the month.

Air China's revenue freight tonne kilometres (RFTK) and freight tonnage carried increased by 8.6% and 4.5% respectively.

The airline's cargo capacity, as measured in available freight tonne kilometres (AFTK), grew by 7.2% while its cargo load factor increased by 0.8 percentage points to 60.5%.
