Air China is to pull out of its route from London Gatwick to Beijing this winter.
Gatwick says the Chinese flag carrier’s increase in capacity from Heathrow “prompted the decision to temporarily withdraw services from Gatwick for the winter season”.
“Air China intends to operate this route again out of Gatwick from next summer and we shall be working hard to return it to a year-round service,” it says.
The airline launched its route from Gatwick in May 2012. It already operated a Beijing service from Heathrow.
Innovata schedules show that Air China operates a Boeing 777 on the Heathrow-Beijing route and flew an Airbus A330 on the Gatwick route over the summer.
