Air France-KLM is introducing a new, lighter short-haul seat on its single-aisle domestic Airbus fleet from the end of this month.
The seat - jointly developed by the carrier and interiors specialist Recaro - weighs 9.1kg which, says the airline, amounts to a 40% reduction on conventional seats.
Air France adds that it will provide passengers with 2-3in (5-8cm) of leg-room.
"Following investment on the long-haul network with the new 'Premium Voyageur' cabin class, Air France is now investing on the domestic network," says Air France-KLM marketing chief Patrick Roux.
Air France will start bringing in the seating from 30 January on its Airbus A319s, A320s and A321s.
