The board of Air France-KLM will convene on 25 March to discuss the tenure of chief executive Jean-Cyril Spinetta, a source familiar with the matter tells Flightglobal.

Spinetta's existing contract is due to run until May 2014, but French financial newspaper La Tribune reported on 21 March that he will step down nine months early.

The newspaper speculated that Spinetta's departure would pave the way for Air France chief executive Alexandre de Juniac to take over at the helm of the parent company.

A spokesperson for Air France-KLM would neither comment on La Tribune's report nor confirm that a board meeting is scheduled for Monday.
