Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance has agreed to aquire Miami-based Barfield from Sabena Technics.

The maintenance firms expect to complete the transaction in the first half of this year.

Barfield specialises in avionics and component repair, rotable services and ground support test equipment. The firm employs 230 people across three facilities in Miami, Phoenix and Louisville, Kentucky.

"This acquisition supplements and strengthens our presence on the world's biggest aviation market - a strategic region due to its dynamism and potential for growth,” says Franck Terner, executive vice-president of the Air France-KLM maintenance company.

He notes the acquisition will allow Barfield to team with AFI-KLM E&M's subsidiary Aero Maintenance Group, which has bases in Miami and Atlanta.
