Air India is intending to lease a pair of Boeing 747-400 jets for a four-year period, and is formally seeking interest from potential customers.

The airline says it is prepared to offer the aircraft together or separately.

Its tender document details the aircraft as bearing serial numbers 27164 and 27165, both 1993 airframes powered by Pratt & Whitney PW4056 engines.

The airline says the aircraft will be available from around the beginning of July, but it is prepared to negotiate earlier delivery dates.

Air India intends to lease out the 747-400s until 2016. The carrier currently leases the jets from Investec International, it states.
