Air New Zealand passenger traffic up 3.5% in December

Air New Zealand (ANZ) has posted 3.5% year-on-year growth in overall passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, for December 2012.

The airline carried 1.36 million passengers in December, a rise of 3.3% from the same period last year.

The airline's short-haul RPKs increased by 5.1%, while its long-haul RPKs grew by 2.2%, compared with the corresponding month last year.

The carrier's short-haul passenger numbers increased by 3.9% to 1.19 million, while its long-haul passenger numbers decreased by 0.8% to 168,000.

Its total capacity, as measured by ASKs, grew by 1.6% year on year, with a rise of 7.2% in short-haul capacity and a fall of 2.6% in long-haul capacity.

The carrier's overall passenger load factor grew by 1.6 percentage points to 86%.

ANZ's short-haul passenger load factor declined by 1.7 percentage points to 85% and long-haul passenger load factor rose by 4.1 percentage points to 87% respectively.
