Air New Zealand passenger traffic up 4% in May

Air New Zealand has posted a 3.7% year-on-year increase in its overall passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, for May.

The carrier's short-haul RPKs increased by 5.1%, while long-haul RPKs rose by 2.6%.

The airline carried 960,000 passengers in May, an increase of 5.6% year on year.

The carrier's short-haul passenger numbers increased by 6% to 859,000, while its long-haul passenger numbers grew by 2% to 102,000.

Its total capacity, as measured in ASKs, grew by 1.2%, with a 2.5% increase in short-haul capacity and a 0.2% rise in long-haul capacity.

The carrier's overall passenger load factor increased by 2 percentage points to 81.7%, while its short-haul passenger load factor rose by 2.1 percentage points to 83.1% and long-haul passenger load factor rose by 1.8 percentage points to 80.5%.
