Air New Zealand (ANZ) will add an additional daily flight on the Auckland-Wellington route from 5 November.
The new service will add 100,000 seats per year between the two cities, with each seat priced from NZ$29 ($24) on a one-way ticket, says the Star Alliance member.
"The domestic market is critical to the success of our business and the Night Rider flights are part of a wider strategy to stimulate more people to fly," says ANZ's chief executive Rob Fyfe.
"The strategy includes the introduction of our popular standby fares on all domestic services, significant reductions to lead-in fares on both main city and regional routes and a substantial investment in new aircraft for the domestic fleet."
Innovata schedules show that ANZ competes with Jetstar Airways on the Auckland-Wellington route.
The carrier will use Boeing 737-300 aircraft with 133 seats for the additional flights.
