Air New Zealand plans to raise capacity on the Wellington-Queenstown route from July till the middle of October.

The capacity increase will be made by upgauging the aircraft used on the service from a ATR 72 turboprop to a Boeing 737-300, the carrier says.

"Queenstown is a hugely popular destination over the ski season and this upgauge will replace some of the capacity that competitor Jetstar has recently withdrawn from the route," says the airline's group general manager for New Zealand and Pacific Islands Cam Wallace.

Innovata schedules show that Air New Zealand competes with Jetstar Airways on the Wellington-Queenstown route.
