Papua New Guinea's flag carrier, Air Niugini, has appointed Simon Foo as its new acting chief executive, replacing Wasantha Kumarasiri.

Foo has been on the board of the airline since 2002, also holding numerous senior management roles during that time.

Kumarasiri stepped down to become managing director of the Independent Public Business Corporation, which manages state-owned enterprises in Papua New Guinea.

The search for a permanent CEO will be made with assistance from an international human resource company and will take at least three months, Air Niugini says.
