Fiji-based Air Pacific is seeking regulatory approval to inaugurate once weekly service from Nadi, Fiji to Honolulu via Apia, Samoa.

The carrier tells US DOT it will primarily use Boeing 737-700 and -800 aircraft on the route starting in September.

Air Pacific adds it "would like to begin advertising and selling the service immediately".

The request comes as Air Pacific seeks to bolster its North American presence after gaining regulatory approval in May to place its code on Alaska Airlines flights between Los Angeles and Vancouver. Air Pacific offers six weekly 747 flights between Nadi and Los Angeles International airport.

Earlier this month, regulators also renewed the carrier's approval to connect Nadi and Honolulu via Christmas Islands, Kiribati.
