Air Seychelles has named former South African Airways commercial executive Manoj Papa as its new chief, succeeding Cramer Ball who has resigned from his post after two years.

Papa's career has included working for Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways, which has taken a 40% stake in Air Seychelles.

He had been acting general manager for the commercial division of South African Airways, where he assisted in developing a turnaround strategy. Papa had previously occupied a number of finance and sales roles at the flag-carrier, as well as serving as Asia and Australasia regional general manager.

Air Seychelles chairman Joel Morgan, the island nation's transport minister, describes Papa as an "experienced airline professional and strategist". He will take up the chief executive position on 1 March.
