AirAsia has promoted Siegtraund Teh to the role of group chief commercial officer following the resignation of Kathleen Tan.

Teh has been in commercial roles with the airline since 2007, and was most recently its group marketing manager. She also played a key role in the launch of AirAsia Japan where she was seconded to support the start-up phase of the affiliate carrier, says the Malaysian low-cost carrier.

AirAsia group chief executive Tony Fernandes welcomed the appointment of Teh, noting that she had already been a "tremendous contributor" to the airline.

"I am confident that she will be able to build on our creative commercial strengths and take the airline forward," he added.

Tan, who was chief commercial officer since 2005, stepped down from AirAsia to take up the role of chief executive at AirAsia Expedia, a travel company which is a joint venture between the airline and Expedia.
