AirAsia passenger numbers up 13% in 2010

Malaysia's AirAsia group has reported a 13.1% increase in passenger numbers to 25.7 million in 2010, as compared with 22.7 million in 2009.

The group saw a 21.5% rise in RPKs, and ASKs grew 14% during the year, says AirAsia. Load factor increased three percentage points to 78%.

The group's Malaysia unit saw a 12.6% rise in the number of passengers to 16.1 million. RPKs surged 19.9%, ASKs rose 10.9%, and load factor increased three percentage points to 78%.

Indonesia AirAsia carried 3.92 million passengers during the year, up 13.3% over 2009. RPKs grew 25.4%, ASKs rose 20.1%, and load factor increased three percentage points to 77%.

Its Thailand unit reported a 14.4% increase in the number of passengers carried to 5.7 million. RPKs jumped 23.1%, ASKs grew 19.6%, and load factor rose two percentage points to 78%.
