AirAsia passenger traffic up 8% in Q3

AirAsia Group has reported 8% year-on-year growth in its passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, for the third quarter of 2012.

Passenger capacity, as measured in ASKs, increased by 8%, while the number of passengers carried grew by 12% to 8.22 million. The load factor for the three months ended 30 September remained flat at 78%.

Malaysia AirAsia reported 9% year-on-year growth in passenger traffic in the third quarter, while passenger capacity rose by 9%.

Its load factor was flat at 77%, the carrier says. The airline carried 4.75 million passengers, an increase of 9% year on year.

Thai AirAsia posted 15% year-on-year growth in passenger traffic, while its passenger capacity rose by 13%.

The unit's load factor grew by 2 percentage points year on year to 82%. The airline carried 1.96 million passengers, an increase of 22% compared with the same period year ago. This uptrend corresponded to a continual strong tourism in the country based on number of tourist arrivals.

Indonesia AirAsia reported a 0.33% year-on-year decline in passenger traffic, while passenger capacity fell by 1%.

Load factor remained flat at 78% and this was a result of the Ramadan holiday peak period. The airline carried 1.51 million passengers, an increase of 8% as compared with the same period the previous year.
