Malaysian low-fare carrier AirAsia has selected a series of computer-based training programmes from Lufthansa Flight Training to educate its cockpit crews.

It has reinforced its training regime with the German division’s courses covering reduced vertical separation minima, all-weather and low-visibility operations, and carriage of dangerous goods.

As well as providing savings, the budget carrier says that the packages have halved pilots’ training time in these areas.

AirAsia executive vice-president of planning and business development Capt Kenneth Chong says: “The pilots remain available for duty full-time, being absent from flight operations for only very short periods.”
