AirAsia X passenger traffic up 21% in Q2

Malaysian long-haul, low-cost carrier AirAsia X's passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, rose by 20.6% in the second quarter compared with the same period a year ago.

For the quarter to June, the carrier's capacity, as measured in ASKs, increased by 21.3% while its load factor fell 0.5 percentage points to 81.8%.

The airline carried 697,000 passengers for the quarter, an increase of 24.2% year on year.

On the cargo front, AirAsia X carried 9,310t of freight, representing a 27% growth from a year ago.

Its aircraft fleet, comprising Airbus A330s, expanded from nine to 12 units during the period.
