AirAsia X passenger traffic up 22% in Q1

Malaysian long-haul, low-cost carrier AirAsia X's passenger traffic, as measured in RPKs, rose by 22% in the first quarter of 2013 compared with the same period a year ago.

For the quarter ended 31 March, the carrier's capacity, as measured in ASKs, increased by 27%, while its load factor stood at 84%.

The airline carried 650,000 passengers for the quarter, an increase of 21% year on year.

On the cargo front, AirAsia X carried 7,500t of freight, registering growth of 47% year on year.

AirAsia X chief executive Azran Osman-Rani says: "This year AirAsia X will continue to focus on increasing capacity in our identified core markets including Australia, China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. The addition of seven aircraft in 2013 will see AirAsia X expand further in the long-haul segment across Asia-Pacific."
