AirAsia X picks CF6 to power new A330s

Malaysia's AirAsia X has chosen GE Aviation's CF6-80E1 engine to power its firm order of three Airbus A330-200s in a deal worth $600 million.

The aircraft are scheduled for delivery from 2012, and will be operated on routes to Europe, Asia and the Pacific.

In addition, AirAsia X has also signed a 20-year deal with GE for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of the CF6-80E1 engines.

The carrier it would be able to operate non-stop to Europe using the A330-200s, which will be configured in a two class layout with 24 premium flatbeds and 264 economy seats.
