Malaysia-based AirAsia's long haul subsidiary, AirAsia X, has reported a 66.6% year on year rise in RPKs for the second quarter of 2011.
Passenger numbers increased by 56% to 620,000 and its capacity, as measured in ASKs, grew by 60.2%. The passenger load factor increased four percentage points to 79%, said the carrier.
In terms of cargo, the airline carried 9,000 tonnes of freight, up by 68% from a year ago.
AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani said: "We are confident we will keep growing into the second half of 2011, especially now that we have recently been granted route approvals from the government. We are now preparing to launch additional routes to further strengthen our network."
"Given this demand, we have recently added more AirAsia stations across Asia to the Fly-Thru network to provide more convenient options to fly to or from AirAsia X destinations," he added.
