AirAsia X Q1 passenger traffic up 60%

Malaysia-based AirAsia's long haul subsidiary AirAsia X reported a 59.8% rise in RPKs for the first quarter of 2011 from a year before.

Passenger numbers increased by 56.5% to 640,000 and capacity, as measured in ASKs, grew 48%. The passenger load factor increased six percentage points to 81%, says the carrier.

AirAsia X added six new routes in first quarter compared with the same period year ago. Its aircraft fleet size also increased from eight to 11, adds the carrier.

In terms of cargo, the airline carried 8,324t of freight, up 182% from a year ago.
