AirAsia X will launch direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide on 30 October.
The carrier will operate four weekly flights on the route using its new Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
In addition, the airline will increase the frequency of the Australian service to five times weekly during the peak summer period between December and February.
AirAsia X chief executive Azran Osman-Rani says the carrier could increase frequency for the route to daily services in the future.
According to Innovata schedules, the low-cost carrier will compete with Malaysia Airlines on the route.
